The transition to renewable energy systems is central to addressing global challenges of rising energy demand, greenhouse gas emissions, and climate change. This study examines the role of renewable energy systems and sustainable technological innovations in accelerating the global shift toward clean energy. A review and synthesis approach was adopted, drawing from peer-reviewed articles, policy reports, and international energy databases, complemented by case studies from Nigeria, Germany, India, Iceland, Denmark, and Brazil. The findings reveal that solar, wind, hydropower, biomass, and geothermal systems have demonstrated significant potential when integrated with innovations such as advanced energy storage, smart grids, digitalization, and recyclable materials. Case studies highlight context-specific applications: solar microgrids in Nigeria improved rural electrification; Germany’s Energiewende integrated large-scale wind and solar into the grid; India’s solar irrigation reduced agricultural reliance on diesel pumps; Iceland achieved energy independence through geothermal resources; Denmark became a leader in wind power; and Brazil leveraged biomass for electricity and ethanol production. Despite progress, challenges remain in intermittency, infrastructure, financing, and resource dependence. The study concludes that renewable energy systems, reinforced by sustainable technology innovation, are critical for achieving energy security, climate resilience, and socio-economic development. Recommendations emphasize strengthening policy frameworks, promoting decentralized solutions, investing in hybrid systems, and adopting circular economy practices to ensure long-term sustainability of the renewable energy transition.
